Since i'm filing for EB1-EA, I do not need an employer. I am wondering why I need to file I-140. As per my knowledge, I-140 is employer's document.

The Form I-140 is the Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker and must be filed in order to apply under EB-1A.  Even though EB-1A is a self-petition category, it is still a category of employment-based immigration.  For more information about qualifying under EB-1A, please see  this link  to our website.
