I just have one question: so, once this petition gets actually approved, I then need to contact the closet US mission close to me (in my case, Montreal or Ottawa) to apply for an immigration visa for myself, my wife and child (so we all 3 will get permanent US residency at the same time). Is this correct?

There are two steps to getting a green card if you are outside of the US: filing an I-140 to qualify yourself under certain immigration category (NIW in your case) and applying at a U.S. Department of State consulate abroad for an immigrant visa in order to come to the United States and be admitted as a permanent resident. This pathway is referred to as “consular processing.” You will be the only person filing an I-140 and after your I-140 approval, both you and any dependents will need to do consular processing.  The NVC will contact you after your I-140 has been approved.
